Visual SourceSafe Project Wizard

The Visual SourceSafe Project Wizard, available from the Environment menu as the Open SourceSafe Project command, connects Spider Writer to Visual SourceSafe projects.

Database Selection and Login Information

In the Database Selection and Login Information step, you enter the path to the srcsafe.ini file that specifies how to reach the Visual SourceSafe database to which you'd like to connect. You can use the browse button to find the file. This file can be located locally or on a remote shared folder. Entering nothing in this textbox will attempt to use whatever srcsafe.ini file is opened by default on your computer, if any. After you've found the srcsafe.ini file to use, enter the user name and password with which you'd like to connect. Then press the Test Login Info button to make sure the database is successfully opened.

Root Project Folder Selection

After you successfully connect to the database, you must select the root project folder you'd like to work with. All the folders are presented in a tree format. Select the folder you'd like to be the root of your project and press the Next button to move on to the next step.

Project Name and Working Folder

In this step, you indicate the project name and description and a working folder to use. The working folder tells Spider Writer where to store files locally when working copies are retrieved from the Visual SourceSafe server. This folder must be specified.

Project Options

In the final step, you can enter some additional options. For more information on the root URL previewing options, see the Visual SourceSafe Project Fundamentals topic. Press the Finish button to open your project in the Environment sidebar.
